NVIDIA finally announced that SLI technology has been extended to use of multiple graphics processing units on a single computer. That will give you 2.8x increase in performance on single GPU at resolutions as high as 2560×1600 and with 8x antialiasing allowing you to run your favorite games at 60fps. For example, gamers with 3-way SLI can play Crysis at high resolutions such as 1920×1600 with all the advanced DirectX 10 effects such as motion blur, ambient occlusion, and soft shadows turned on. However for that you will need need three GeForce 8800 GTX or GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards and a PC capable for running all that.
AMD recently demonstrated 2.2GHz Phenom machine with both unreleased RS780 integrated graphics and a RV620-based card labeled HD Radeon 3450. Both cards showed excellent performance running Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 games with frame rates around 55fps when hybrid mode was enabled. Benefits of the integrated chips is that they can power down to save power when not needed, and switch over when required. That’s very important option for laptop models when saving battery life. AMD plans to start shipping CrossFire-capable cards early next year with price around $50 dollars.
