Second big news from Macworld is that Apple officially admitted that first Apple TV didn’t work out and now goes with new concept where users can access iTunes directly and stream movies from the new rental store in DVD or HD quality with 5.1 surround. Rental prices are $3.99 and $4.99 and there is expanded YouTube selection to 50M videos, Flickr support and completely new user interface. The new single menu interface offers quick search of all available titles, and includes access to 600 TV shows that are available for $1.99, as well as your iTunes library and HD podcasts. For current owners Apple offers new software as free download. As for the Apple TV you can order it from Apple site for $229 40GB model and $329 for 60GB model. All feature 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless, Apple Remote and Mac and PC connectivity.
Steve Jobs at Macworld opening announced new ultrathin and ultralight Apple MacBook Air. Laptop is just 0.16 inches thin with 13.3 inch display, custom built 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR built in, full-size keyboard, built-in iSight and larger trackpad with multi-touch gestures support. Inside the hub is 1.8-inch 80GB hard drive same as used in iPod classic with option to order a 64GB SSD. Also MacBook Air comes with just one USB port, built-in RAM and the fixed battery that offers 5 hours of work, no optical drive but you can order external for $99. The machine comes packaged with micro-DVI to DVI and micro-DVI to VGA adapters and micro-DVI out is single-link only, meaning it can drive a 24-inch monitor, not a 30-inch. There’s no DisplayLink converter / adapter yet. As for the sound, speaker is mono only. Available for pre-order with $1799 starting price.

Acer announced that their laptop model Aspire 4315-100508C will be shipped with Ubuntu 7.10. As for the specs this model features 1,280 x 800 resolution display, 1.86GHz Celeron M 540 processor, 512MB RAM memory, 80GB disk, and DVD optical drive. Right now only available in New Zealand for about $553 dollars but soon expected elsewhere.
