SanDisk unveils two new memory technologies. First one is 16-gigabit flash chip that contains three bits per cell and it is based on Toshiba’s 3D flash technology. The chip offers 8MB/sec write speed and it is much smaller than conventional MLC chips. This 16-gigabit flash chips will go into production in March. Second flash news is that SanDisk is planning to move on 43nm MLC fabrication, that will allow production of 32 gigabit flash chips during this year. Seems that we will have a huge number of memory cards with big capacities this year.
Since HP and Toshiba started using new Penryn chips we asked when will come to Dell to start embedding it in its own configurations. The only thing we could never guess is that Dell will offer Penryn upgrades for free. Dell is offering free Penryn upgrade for users of XPS M1330 laptop line. So far the deal is available only in Australia and it says if you pay AUD$2,000 for XPS M1330 you will get “upgrade” to the Core 2 Duo T9300 processor. Guess we all would have to wait a little more for Dell to spread this offer to the rest of the world.
