As Dell started to ships new laptop models with Penryn chips it was just a matter of time when Alienware will follow. So, check out new Area-51 m15x laptop with choice of T- and X-series Core 2 Duo processors. Area-51 m15x is the only 15.4-inch system available with a 45nm Extreme processor. Standard configuration offer 2.5GHz T9300 processor and you can upgrade it to 2.6GHz T9500 for $275 or 2.8GHz X9000 Core 2 Extreme for additional $650 bucks. Still we are not sure when this laptop will be available but expect it to be really soon!
Thosiba held a press conference today where the company president and CEO Atsutoshi Nishida said that Thosiba will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders. Canceling the HD DVD product line will start from March and at the same time will be stopped the production on HD DVD disk drives for PCs and game consoles. This decision has been made following recent major changes in the market. Toshiba will continue, however, to provide full product support and after-sales service for all owners of Toshiba HD DVD products.
Mtron continues to unveil new storage products and this time announces a 1.8-inch 128GB SSD. This model is the same size as drives used in MacBook Air, Latitude XT, and Lenovo X300 and obviously this could be the sign that 1.8-inch SSDs will become a new standard in most new laptops. Still we expect to see some prices fall since new Mtron’s 1.8-inch 128GB disk will probably cost you about $1600 when it hits the stores in April.
Seems that TDK has decided to push up its USB flash drives line and this time presents new models available in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB varieties. All models weighs just 3 grams and measure 32 x 15 x 8 mm and comes with sliding USB connector. Drives will be available in Japan by the end of the month but no words about prices.
LG announced new fashion-led televisions series. In new LCD range comes beautifully designed LG6000 LCD HDTV TV with a slim silhouette and unique red colored back while a round LED light aperture gives the set a “soft red pulsating glow”. Available in 32-, 37-, 42- and 47 inch combinations and all feature 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, Mark Levinson speakers, automatic brightness and color optimization, four HDMI 1.3 inputs, USB 2.0 port and TruMotion 100Hz technology on the 42 and 47 inchers. Also, there is new plasma TV line from LG, led by PG6000 model available in 42- and 50 inch combinations. From the specs we see 30,000:1 contrast ratio, 100,000-hour panel, Dual XD Engine, THX Display Certification, Four HDMI 1.3 with Deep Colour and USB 2.0 jack. Unfortunately there are no words about release date and prices.
Guys from HotHardware revealed first shots of new Asus Z7S WS Skulltrail motherboard designed for Intel chipsets. This motherboard feature dual LGA771 sockets that support Intel Xeon 5000, 5100, and 5300 series processors of both the dual and quad-core varieties.Additionally there is pair of gigabit Ethernet jacks, six DDR2 DIMM slots, support for 1600MHz / 1333MHz / 1066MHz / 800MHz front side bus speeds and one PCIe x1, PCI-X, and PCI 2.2 slots, as well as one PCIe x16 slots. As you can see from picture there is also special built-in active RAM cooler. Still it is not certain when this motherboard will be available in stores near you.
Sigmatek announced new Blu-ray player, the SBR-1000. For the estimated price under $364 it will be the cheapest Blu-ray player available in Europe and expected to hit the stores somewhere in April. It is expected that player will support Profile 1.1 / Bonus View features along with 1080p/24, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and HDMI 1.3 support. Such low price has been achieved thanks to new Sony and Nichia’s new cheaper blue laser.

The 17-inch XPS M1730 gaming laptop runs Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 and T9300 45nm processors at 2.4GHz and 2.5GHz. Basic configuration includes T8300 chipset but customers can choose among 2.4GHz T8300, 2.5GHz T9300, 2.6GHz T7800 or 2.8GHz X7900 chips for their configurations. Still we don’t any info about prices.
