Dolby Laboratories and SIM2 Multimedia teamed to create new prototype HDR–enabled LCD flat-screen display using Dolby’s new light emitting diodes local dimming technology. Dolby’s HDR technologies utilize the capabilities of LED-based backlight units (BLUs) to provide outstanding contrast combined with crisp brightness to deliver picture quality that matches real-world visual perception of depth, detail, and color. This 46 inch 1080p HDR-enabled LCD HDTV boasts 1,836 LED-based backlight units, 1920 x 1080 resolution, 4,000 cd/m2 brightness, 95% luminance uniformity and a Xilinx Virtex field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) chipset. The prototype has a Giorgio Revoldini design. Dolby and SIM2 are showcasing the prototype in New York City and soon is expected to be shown worldwide.

MSI has a new laptop VR340 with not so special characteristics. This 13.3 incher sport dual-core Intel CPU, WXGA panel, up to 3GB DDR2 RAM, dual-layer DVD burner, three USB ports, 5-in-1 multicard reader, 1.3 mega pixel webcam and an internal mic and a six-cell battery. MSI VR340 measures 332×240x26.5-35mm and weigh 2.2Kg Obviously a low class model for yet unknown price.

Okoro Media Systems has announced new ZX series of Extreme Digital Entertainment Systems starting with OMS-ZX100 media PC that comes with 32GB SSD for system and 1TB HDD for media storage. Inside is stored 3.0GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6850 processor, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, NVIDIA’s 256MB GeForce 8600 GT graphics card, Blu-ray/HD DVD playback drive and option to choose the color of the chassis. Basic configuration will cost you about $5,995 and if you really want CableCARD tuner and WiFi adapter be prepared to spend even more.

AMD today announced that ATI FireGL V7700 received DisplayPort certification badge making it first DisplayPort-equipped card for the professionals. The ATI FireGL V7700 features PCI Express 2.0 interface, 10 bit display engine, 512MB of onboard memory, dual-link DVI connector and support for CAD / DCC projects. The ATI FireGL V7700 3D workstation graphics accelerator card is expected to begin shipping in April 2008 and will be available from system integrators and AMD channel partners worldwide, with expected price of $1,099 bucks.
