Intel keeps the promises and as we have expected will launch its first SSD in about one months. Official info says there will be 1.8-inch X-18M and 2.5-inch X-25M models for laptops and MIDs available in 80GB and 160GB capacities with MLC technology and 32GB and 64GB SLC based models for server. Pricing is expected to be about $8 per 1GB meaning that 160GB SSD will be about $1,280 and the 80GB a $640 dollars.

OCZ has new models form Core Series V2 of 2.5-inch drives. New sizes are 30GB, 60GB, 120GB and 250GB and the access times are up to 170MBps read and 98MBps write. On the case you will see the mini USB port for much easier firmware upgrades. Expected prices are about the same as original Core lineup.

Intel has new SSD card, Z-P230 PATA SSD designed to fit into most laptops and comes in 4GB and 8GB capacities with 16GB option to come later in September. The new SSD is based on a miniature card module that weighs just 8 grams, compared to 11 grams for the original Z-P230. As for the prices the 4GB version costs US$25 in 1,000 unit quantities, while the 8GB version is $45 also in the 1,000 units shipment.

Freecom says they have developed the world’s smallest 2.5 inch portable hard drive. The Mobile Drive XXS is about 27% smaller than competitors and weights just 155 grams. Available in 160GB, 250GB, or 320GB sizes along with form-fitting rubber sleeve. Should be available very soon in UK for £45, £60, or £80, depending on the capacity.

Kingston has tossed new set of DataTraveler line with 16GB capacity. DataTraveler 400 with MigoSync software and the DT100 are available in 16GB flavors, the DT101 comes with security software and 8GB capacity with option to choose from cyan, pink and yellow colors. All models are available right now for $196 bucks for 16GB DT400, $85 16GB DT100 and DT101 from $14 to $44.

Western Digital has introduced new VelociRaptor HDD with very high performances. This 2.5 inch SATA drive features 10,000RPM and designed for 1U and 2U rack servers. It consumes 35% less power then previous model and sport 300GB of storage space. Release date is still unknown but we assume it will be somewhere in August.
