Dolby Laboratories and SIM2 Multimedia teamed to create new prototype HDR–enabled LCD flat-screen display using Dolby’s new light emitting diodes local dimming technology. Dolby’s HDR technologies utilize the capabilities of LED-based backlight units (BLUs) to provide outstanding contrast combined with crisp brightness to deliver picture quality that matches real-world visual perception of depth, detail, and color. This 46 inch 1080p HDR-enabled LCD HDTV boasts 1,836 LED-based backlight units, 1920 x 1080 resolution, 4,000 cd/m2 brightness, 95% luminance uniformity and a Xilinx Virtex field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) chipset. The prototype has a Giorgio Revoldini design. Dolby and SIM2 are showcasing the prototype in New York City and soon is expected to be shown worldwide.
